Wow, we easily just had one of the most exciting and spectacular days we have ever experienced!
Yesterday at the Hollywood Palladium, SoHo Taco had the honor and the privilege of taking part in the LA Weekly organized event Tacolandia, which was an epic collection of some of the best taqueros from both sides of the border, all of whom were personally curated by the noted blogger Bill Esparza of Street Gourmet LA.
The LA area is no stranger to taco-centric festivities, there are a couple that take place throughout the year. But this homage is definitely unlike the others. First and foremost at $20 per person and an all-you-can-eat style of service the cost was outrageously affordable and it was no wonder why they sold out well in advance.
And, secondly, the caliber of taco providers was legendary. Some vendors came all the way from Mexico, have been featured in several prestigious publications, are darlings of the foodie community and/or all of the above. We were definitely in good company.
We started out our day at 12:00 pm sharp. At first we didn’t have too many guests and we all thought it was because we were from Orange County and no one was really familiar with us. So, we were thinking it was going to be a slow day. And, then, BAM. Word got out about what were serving and then soon we had a long, winding line that lasted up to and beyond closing time!

Although our simple menu featured our usual outstanding line up of veggie and carne asada, it became quickly evident that the star of our showcase was the lobster taco on freshly-pressed blue corn tortilla. And, fortunately we had enough to last throughout most of the day!
We were told to prepare at least 800 samples, we brought enough for about 1,200. This allowed us to serve everyone all the way up to about 5:30P, thirty minutes after closing!
All day long we heard absolutely nothing but compliments and words of encouragement; from the overall presentation to the selection of salsas, from the cleanliness of the cart to the incredible flavors of our tacos.
We truly do appreciate the fact that some people waited up to 45 minutes to order their meals and it really did help that our dream team was on hand making it so that everyone’s meals were served up within seconds.
In the end we were crazy tired, but super exhilarated. It truly was one of the best experiences we have ever had.
We would like to thank Bill Esparza and the LA Weekly team for organizing such a momentous occasion. And, we most especially appreciate the folks that waited in our long lines just to sample our fare. We had a great time and we can’t wait to serve everyone again real soon!
