February just got started and so did our special of the month. This time around we’re going on the more adventurous side of the culinary spectrum!

We are pleased to introduce this month’s star Taco de Charales ($4.74), which features crisp, freshly fried anchovies, cactus slaw, chile morito tomatillo salsa, guacamole, served on a fresh, hand-pressed blue corn tortilla.

One bite into this savory delicacy and you know you’re in for delicious treat unlike any other you’ve had in a long time. The crispy, briney fish is wonderfully balanced with the sweetness of the cactus and tomatillo salsas, it’s truly one of a kind.

This might not be a common taco out here in Southern California, but in the lake areas of Cuitzeo, Pátzcuaro and Zirahuén of Michoacán, Mexico these small fish abound and are often served in tortillas.
